70th Anniversary Memorial Service of 'The Blitz', December 29th 2010

Our group
We are proud to
represent the men and women who did their part for their local
communities and their nation as a whole, whilst fighting fire many found
comradeship, true friendship and happiness in the midst of what was
often
a very
dangerous undertaking.
Our aim is not only to
preserve the history of wartime fire fighting, but to continue
the respect for those who did join the wartime services, unaware
of
what it would lead to. Finally, and just importantly, we keep the
history alive by educating the younger generation of today.
When displaying at
events you will see members representing the fire service throughout
the war years to give a full representation of all those that
served, for this
reason you will see the AFS (1938 - 1941), NFS (1941 - 1945) and the
Overseas Contingent (1944 - 1945) displaying side by side.
WE KEEP THEIR MEMORY
ALIVE.
In common with many
Home Front groups, it is somewhat difficult for new members to source
original uniform items. The biggest issue is that seven decades ago,
clothing sizes were much smaller, this of course also applies to
head and foot wear. A selection of original items are often
available from a members store at events.
Meet us on display at the following

MEMORIAL EVENT: SUNDAY 27TH MAY 2012
Thursday
24th May 2012 marks the 70th
anniversary of the day the 'Corps of Canadian Fire Fighters' came to
England to support the National Fire Service. During their time here 3
Canadian Fire Fighters lost their lives, two of these fire fighters are
buried within the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Canadian cemetery
at 'Brookland Cemetery' near Woking in Surrey. Members of the 'Heroes With Grimy
Faces' will be marking this anniversary by laying wreaths upon the
graves of the 2 Canadians, attended by a parade of
members in war time NFS uniform and hopefully at least one war time
appliance.
Guests are
by invitation ONLY and hope to include representatives of the CWGC, Canadian
Embassy, RBL, SFRS Drill
Section standard bearers, Woking Fire crew, and the local Press.
