"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the WWII Fire Services Living History Group 'Heroes With Grimy Faces'. Your generosity of time and knowledge has greatly helped my family learn more about our grandfather, who gave his life in service to his country as an AFS fireman.
My mother, grandmother and uncle moved to Philadelphia just after the war ended. As children we grew up hearing about how her father, Arthur Farnin, saved the life of another fireman as a wall collapsed on them both. While we always heard the story, we never knew the details.
With my mother's passing I've felt the urge to gather as much information as I can to preserve our collective heritage. I am much indebted to you for your help in uncovering important information that has helped us preserve our grandfather's memory."

"I am ashamed to say that after 30yrs as a fireman,13yrs as a sub officer, I did not know the history of war time firefighters, and also information on uniforms, until that is I came across your web site 'Heroes with Grimy Faces', the info received has been priceless, nothing too much regarding help on any matter. I am a big believer in re-enactments where the public and the youth of today can re-live the 1940's fire service era, so keep up the good work and if there is anything I can do to help please ask."
