ALL GROUP MEMBERS
ARE EXPECTED TO ABIDE WITH THE UNIFORM DRESS CODE AND RANK STRUCTURE IN
ORDER TO
MAINTAIN
AUTHENTICITY DURING PUBLIC DISPLAYS
IMPORTANT MEMBERSHIP
INFORMATION.
Enlistment is open to
both males and females aged 16 and over, however please note that
you will be expected to become a paid up member of the 'Fire
Service Preservation Group',
this ensures that you as a member are covered by the FSPG's Public Liability Insurance whilst
you are displaying. Events often
include practical
demonstrations of period equipment and appliances, as a result
participating members are instructed
in basic firemanship so they can safely take part in public displays. Our ranks are made up
of
serving and former members of the British fire services, as well
others with no service
history. Former and present Fire Service members will
assist others in
learning the basic skills necessary to participate safely.
The group is rapidly
growing in strength and attracts a lot of interest from 1940's event
organisers. For these reasons it is vital that
everything we do is portrayed authentically to the highest standard.
As the UK's premier
WW2 Fire Services Living History Group we will make
every effort to turn out correctly, ensuring
all members dress in the correct uniform for the
particular service they are
representing.
All members attending
events will be expected to adhere to strict authenticity
rules at all times when they are on display, a membership rank structure is being adopted to ensure that
Junior and Senior Officer ranks
are commensurate with the age of the wearer, rank will
be earned by way of a members commitment to event attendance and their behaviour
whilst at events, and as and when a promotion position becomes
available.
New members will be
recruited as trainee firemen/firewomen for the first year of
their membership, after which promotion may be awarded to
individuals dependant upon the criteria above. In line with fire
service protocol each display will begin with a 'parade' of all
members in attendance.
